OPV or perovskite? Start with the workload.
LumaViva currently uses organic photovoltaics (OPV), not perovskite. This is a selection guide for indoor-light-powered devices, not a claim that either material class always performs better.
Two material families, one system-level question
| Selection topic | Organic photovoltaics (OPV) | Perovskite photovoltaics |
|---|---|---|
| Absorber | Organic semiconductor materials | A perovskite-structure absorber; photovoltaic research commonly uses metal-halide compounds |
| Indoor output | Ask for loaded module measurements under your actual lamp spectrum and illumination | Ask for the same measurements under identical conditions |
| Mechanical integration | Module thickness, flexibility, colour and encapsulation depend on the supplied product | Module thickness, flexibility and encapsulation also depend on the supplied product |
| Reliability | Evaluate the specific module, seals and intended service conditions | Evaluate the specific module, seals and intended service conditions |
| Materials & disposal | Request composition, compliance documents and disposal guidance | Request composition, including any lead content, compliance documents and disposal guidance |
| LumaViva today | Current harvesting approach | Not used in the current product |
Avoid comparing unlike efficiency numbers
Outdoor research-cell efficiency and indoor module output are different metrics. A fair indoor comparison needs the same lamp spectrum, illumination at the panel, active area, load and measurement method. Also compare the energy actually reaching storage, not just the absorber.
How we approach a product decision
Start with the device workload and available placement. Check usable module area, startup behaviour, energy-management compatibility, storage losses, lifetime evidence, compliance and supply terms. Material names alone do not answer these questions.
