TECHNOLOGY / INDOOR LIGHT

Everyday light. Useful energy.

LumaHarvest Technology Limited · Updated October 17, 2026

Indoor light energy harvesting converts light already present inside a building into a small supply of electrical energy. The useful question is not simply whether a panel makes power, but whether the whole device can collect enough energy for its workload over time. LumaHarvest focuses on indoor-light-powered products, rather than rooftop or outdoor solar generation.

How ordinary room light becomes useful energy

In organic photovoltaics (OPV), organic semiconductor materials absorb suitable light and generate electrical charges that can be collected by electrodes. Energy-management electronics then condition this power for a load or storage device. In LumaViva, a rechargeable capacitor stores energy for motion-triggered lighting after dark.

Indoor harvesting has its own design conditions

Indoor lamps have different spectra and brightness from outdoor sunlight. A rooftop solar rating does not establish useful output under a room lamp. Module area, spectrum, panel angle, shadows, conversion losses and hours of exposure all matter. Direct sunlight is not required for LumaViva, but a dark room cannot replenish its energy.

Lux is useful, but it is not an energy rating

Lux describes illumination weighted for human vision. Two lamps can give the same lux reading at the panel while producing different electrical output. A useful performance statement identifies the light source, measurement location, panel area, voltage and current under load, and exposure duration.

Match harvesting to the workload

Daily harvesting needs to cover standby, lighting and storage losses. Performance depends on the light source, placement, daily exposure and activity. Detailed engineering records are not public; consult the product guidance for placement advice.

Can indoor light power electronics?

It can suit a low average-power workload when sufficient light is available. Higher instantaneous loads may require stored energy. Whether a specific device is energy-balanced must be tested at system level; a module data sheet alone does not prove it.
